Charts Recap for January 10th - 16th, 2022

A new week means a new top-ten best-seller chart at Sonic Boom! And we’ve got a new old best-seller taking the number-one spot this week! We completely sold-out of SZA’s 2017 breakthrough record Ctrl to make it this week’s best-seller. This one has been a regular in our top-ten recently, but this is its first number-one since it was a new release. Not surprising that this has achieved early classic status, as it has more more less created a new blueprint for contemporary R&B.

And this week’s best selling new release appears at number three on out charts. Covers by CAT POWER is the singer’s third in a trilogy of covers records that started way back in 2000 with The Covers Record. Anyone familiar with the works of Chan Marshall know that some of her most inspired performances come on these reinterpretations. The latest installment finds her tackling tracks by Frank Ocean, Lana Del Rey, Nick Cave, and more!

THE LUMINEERS also had a great week here with two records charting, including their new LP Brightside. They couldn’t quite best Radiohead, who had an unprecedented three records in the top-ten, but two is impressive nonetheless. This is the fourth full-length from the stomp-folk progenitors, and their third produced by Simon Felice, once of the Felice Brothers.
