Charts Recap: May 10th - 16th, 2021

It’s total chaos in the Sonic Boom Weekly top-ten! We’ve got a 100% turnover of records from last week along with of course a brand new number one. Daddy’s Home by ST VINCENT is our runaway top seller this go around. The 70s-retro-soaked new record isn’t her first visit to the top spot, but its the first in a while. Gotta love the stylistic commitment here, we loved Bowie for the chameleonic ability to be a totally new character on every record, and St Vincent clearly has that talent in her musical DNA. Love the titular homage to dad getting out of jail too!

Another big name has a new one charting this week too. PHOEBE BRIDGERS, who had Sonic Boom’s best-selling record of 2020, has a new EP revamping tracks from that very record. Copycat Killer is string laden reworkings of tracks from Punisher featuring notable stringsist collaborator Rob Moose. Get a fresh take and new mood to some tracks you know and love.

And our highest charting newbie in this week’s top-ten is GIRL IN RED whose If I Could Make It Go Quiet shows up at number four this week. This is the debut record from 22 year old singer-songwriter Marie Ulven. The Norwegian artist is a very personal and candid songwriter making some unique modern guitar pop. Worth a listen for the uninitiated!
