What they're saying: A review from Christopher Anthony at the Fire Note blog accurately identifies Colemine records as one of the finest working purveyors of neo-soul; calling this compilation of 45s a “perfect starting point for anyone wanting to get a top end sample of this surging genre.” The Pressure blog also pours on the praise for Colemine in their rundown of the 3 LP set’s best tracks: “Pound for pound, there are few other labels so overstocked with the next big things of the respective genres.”

What we say: Great soul music has always been about the hot 45 rpm single, Colemine Records has been honoring this fine tradition since their founding. The label has been home to many of our favorite soul revivalists (Durand Jones, Aaron Frazer, Delvon Lamarr, etc) and have released a ton of great singles over the years. The trouble is that these singles can be hard to keep track of, and go out-of-print quick. Never fear, this sprawling compilation catches all the great a-sides you may have missed. It keeps up the energy throughout and is bound to hip you to at least one new soul artist to obsess over.
