Charts Recap: January 27th - February 2nd, 2020

Another big new-release week for us sees another heavy shuffling of our weekly top-ten chart! Have We Met, the latest and very excellent record from Destroyer, is our new number one this go around! This is as inspired as Dan Bejar has sounded in about a decade. The record is a winning sonic experiment start to finish, twisting and tweaking the Destroyer sound. Read more about the record’s conception in this great interview at Aquarium Drunkard.

Surprise hot-seller Bonny Light Horseman is up to number two. And deeper in our top-ten we have some other notable new chart entries. The Unraveling from the Drive-By Truckers is at #4. It is ANOTHER fiery and overtly political record (following in spirit 2016’s American Band) from a band we might never have expected such a thing from!

We were also treated to the physical release of the latest dispatch from The Chromatics after a too long gap between proper records and rumors of scrapped projects. Closer To Grey is another superb sultry and cinematic synth-pop record from some of the more visionary aestheticists of our era. You gotta hear their take on Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound Of Silence’.
