For fans of: 80s NYC underground sounds.
What they're saying: This stellar compilation earned 5 stars from The Times UK. From the label: “During this time the art and music worlds of downtown New York, especially that of the East Village, were colliding as the musical boundary lines between punk rock, dance music and hip-hop also blurred.”
What we say: The Soul Jazz label has long been a source of incredible genre introductions. This one is another, a nice overview of funkier side of 80's New York hipstersdom.
Further research: This comp coincides with a new exhibition at London’s Tate Museum.
