Charts Recap: July 8th - 14th, 2019

Another week into summer and we’ve got a new set of best-sellers at the shop. The Black Keys ‘Let’s Rock’ is one of the only records hanging on from last week, holding number one in our CD charts. But the week’s over-all top album is ‘Purple Mountains’ the self-titled debut from the once Silver Jew, David Berman. (Get re-familiar with this profile in Slate.) The long-time shop-favorite songwriter hasn’t lost his shine after a decade on the shelf, in fact sounds fresh with some of the band Woods backing him. This is an A+ record of sardonic observations on our strange sad world.

Elsewhere we’ve got chart debuts from Kyle Craft, Bleached, Tomb Mold, Floating Points, and a Venom box-set (!!). Though lets zoom in on Khruangbin’s new project ‘Hasta El Cielo’ which finds the globally minded Texas psych-funk outfit re-imagining there brilliant previous LP ‘Con Todo El Mundo’ in DUB. The sound fits as this is already a group with a groove. Give it a virtual spin.
